Remembering Kenya’s Super Tuskers
Today, 12 August, the world marks World Elephant Day, a day to celebrate elephants and raise awareness about the threats facing these magnificent giants.
For Kenya, this day carries a particularly powerful message. Kenya is home to some of Africa’s most iconic elephants, including the legendary super tuskers, rare giants whose enormous tusks are a testament to age, genetics and decades of survival.
But the story of Kenya’s elephants is also a story of loss, resilience and hope. From the tragic deaths of Satao and Satao II at the hands of poachers to the peaceful passing of Big Tim, Craig and One Ton in old age, their lives reveal how far elephant conservation has come and how much remains to be done.
