It’s Time to #TaxTheSuperRich – For People and Planet

We live in a world of staggering inequality. The richest 1% own more wealth than 95% of humanity combined. While ordinary families struggle to put food on the table, the super rich are buying super yachts, investing in polluting industries, and paying less than their fair share in taxes. This isn’t just unfair, it’s unsustainable.

The truth is simple: the money needed to tackle poverty, inequality, and the climate crisis already exists, it’s just in the wrong hands. By introducing higher and fairer taxes on the super rich, governments could raise trillions of dollars needed to fund climate action, protect nature, and improve lives across the world.

Why #TaxTheSuperRich Makes Sense

The idea is not new, but it’s more urgent than ever. Humanity faces multiple crises: climate change, environmental destruction, and deepening poverty. Yet, billionaire wealth continues to skyrocket. In January alone, billionaire wealth surged by $314 billion, that’s about $10 billion every single day! This is more than the total wealth of the poorest 2.8 billion people on Earth.

If just a fraction of this wealth was taxed fairly, we could finance renewable energy transitions, protect forests and oceans, and ensure every child has access to clean water and education. It’s not a radical idea—it’s common sense.

Change Is Possible

The good news? Change is already happening. Some governments are beginning to introduce fairer tax policies, and discussions are gaining momentum at the G20 and United Nations to create new global tax rules. The world is finally waking up to the fact that taxing the super rich is the key to building a fairer, greener future.
